Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals are relative newcomers on the scene. The current Washington Nationals baseball team has been in Washington only since 2005, and was formerly known as the Montreal Expos.

The current Washington Nationals logo has “Washington” written on a ribbon over the word “Nationals” with a baseball in the background. The logo for the Washington Nationals’ caps is a cursive “W”. The Washington Nationals stadium is Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, which is often shortened to RFK Stadium or RFK. It has also been the home of the Washington Redskins, the Washington Senators, and is currently the home of D.C. United of Major League Soccer as well as the Washington Nationals of MLB. It also hosted the 1994 FIFA World Cup, the 1996 Summer Olympics, and the 2003 Women’s World Cup.

Carleen Martin and the Washington Nationals are working together to create a role model for all African American women. Martin is the Director of Marketing and Promotions for the Washington Nationals, and herself and Chartese Berry, the Vice President of Communications, are responsible for the imprint that the team makes. The two women control the image, the presentation, and the access of the Washington Nationals.

Another important Washington Nationals player is Alex Escobar. He made his debut in 2001 with the Mets, though was traded to the Indians when the season was over. He ended up missing the entire season because of a torn left anterior cruciate ligament. He started playing with the Washington Nationals in 2005.

The 2007 Washington Nationals have been plagued with injuries. They lost Nook Logan, center fielder, and Cristian Guzman, who was their starting shortstop, to a hamstring injury on Opening Day. Jerome Williams hurt his ankle at the end of April and was placed on the disabled list. During the first ten days in May, Shawn Hill, John Patterson, and Jason Bergmann joined him. Williams did return to pitch a game, only to go back on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. The team started to bounce back some, and then on June 25, Guzman had to be removed for the rest of the season for a thumb injury.
