The 1939 year saw several new rookie players to the team. In 1939, the Philadelphia Phillies welcomed pitcher Bill Hoffman to the team. His career was brief, as he only pitched in three games, the last being on August 26th. That game he pitched six innings. During that time, he allowed nine runs to be earned, two home runs and walked seven batters and struck out one.

1980 was an exciting year for the Philadelphia Phillies. For the 1980 NLCS game, the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies held a close battle. Four of the five games went into extra innings, and the Phillies started to fall behind. However, the team was able to push back into victory with a tenth-inning hit by Garry Maddox, allowing the Phillies to celebrate their first pennant win in thirty years. The team then went on to play Kansas City in the 1980 World Series, where they were able to win their one and only World Series Pennant.

The 2007 Philadelphia Phillies have had an interesting record to date. After 15 games, the team was in a dismal spot with only four wins. However, by June 13th the Phillies were able to catch the Atlanta Braves, tying them for second place. The team also started the season with 9,955 losses to their name, a major league baseball record. As of July 7th, they were up to 9,999 losses, and were poised to be the first professional sports team to reach the milestone of 10,000 losses.
