Fantasy Baseball Rankings
Albert Pujols is at the top of the rankings for hitters at the 2007 Fantasy Baseball Season midpoint. With a .309 batting average and 16 HR already this season every fantasy owner wants to get their hands on Pujols. Johan Santana sits atop the rankings for pitchers with his 1.03 WHIP and 2.75 ERA, a fantasy owner’s dream but of course he comes at a high price. Some notables in the top 10 include Alex Rodriguez whose injury is comes at a good time just before the All Star Break. And David Ortiz homered once again on Sunday keeping him ranked in the top 10 with 14 Home Runs so far. Gary Sheffield stole another base and with his solid .297 average and exceptional 20 home runs is a solid choice for any Fantasy owner.

The system for hitters is as follows, Batting average is the number of hits divided by the number of at bats. Slugging percentage is the number of bases divided by the number of at bats, the On Base percentage is the Hits and Walks divided by the number of plate appearances, Total Bases is the number of hits plus doubles plus triples multiplied by 2, and home runs multiplied by 3. For pitchers, the earned run average is the number of earned runs given up by a pitcher multiplied by nine and divided by the number of innings pitched. The WHIP ratio is the number of walks and hits divided by the number of innings pitched. The number of strikeouts your pitcher averages per nine innings is another stat that is taken into account along with his strikeout to walk ratio. Fielding takes into account just one statistic, and that is his fielding percentage or the number of putouts and assists divided by the number of putouts and assists along with errors. Thus choosing a player because of his situational hitting ability is not advised. Choose players that are likely to rack up the most numbers and for the lowest price. Slugging percentage is very important for hitters because a high slugging percentage also means a high number of total bases. For pitchers, stick with a high strikeout pitcher with a low WHIP and you have met an excellent fantasy player.
