The national league baseball logos feature an eagle with a banner on its chest and a baseball diamond in the background. The banner features a flag-like background, with a baseball that has the words “Since 1876 National League” printed on it. A ribbon with the words “Of Professional Baseball Clubs” is underneath. One talon holds a glove, and the other a baseball bat.

There were three original National League baseball teams. These included: the Chicago White Stockings, the Philadelphia Athletics, the Boston Red Stockings, the Hartford Dark Blues, the Mutual of New York, the St. Louis Brown Stockings (Browns), the Cincinnati Red Stockings, and the Louisville Grays. The Chicago White Stockings are now the Chicago Clubs and the Boston Red Stockings are now the Atlanta Braves. The Philadelphia Athletics, Hartford Dark Blues, Mutual of New York, St. Louis Brown Stockings, and Louisville Grays all either folded or were expelled by 1878.

The current National League members are: the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, the Cincinnati Reds, the Colorado Rockies, the Florida Marlins, the Houston Astros, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Milwaukee Brewers, the New York Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Pittsburg Pirates, the San Diego Padres, the San Francisco Giants, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Washington Nationals.

The National League divided into three divisions in the 1994 season, which is how it has remained since. There are five teams in the East and West divisions and six in the Central division. The three division champions and a wild card team advance to play in the National League Division Series.

The National League tends to be the more traditional league in baseball. It never adopted the designated hitter rule, meaning that the manager plays a greater roll since he must take account of the offense when making substitutions. Since the pitcher bats in the batting order, there tends to be fewer home runs and scored runs in the National League.
