American League Baseball

Some of the excitement in baseball comes from the two major leagues battling it out for supremacy on the way to the World Series. These two leagues are the American Baseball League and the National Baseball League. Here is a look at some information on the American League baseball teams.

American League baseball has had an exciting history. The original baseball teams in the American League started out in the Western League, which was a minor league in the Great Lake area. To some people, the baseball teams in the American League are also know as the teams of the Junior Circuit, since the American League was formed a quarter of a century after the National League.

Currently, the number of baseball teams in the American League is 14. The baseball teams of the American League include: the Baltimore Orioles, the Boston Red Sox, the Chicago White Sox, the Cleveland Indians, the Detroit Tigers, the Kansas City Royals, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the Minnesota Twins, the New York Yankees, the Oakland Athletics, the Seattle Mariners, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, the Texas Rangers, and the Toronto Blue Jays. These all American League baseball teams unite together under the American league baseball symbol of an eagle clasping a baseball to take on the National League.

However, the American League did not always look like this. If you had asked how many baseball teams are there in the American League 100 years ago, the answer would have been something different. The original number of baseball teams in the American League was only eight, and included: the Baltimore Orioles, the Boston Americans, the Chicago White Stockings, the Cleveland Blues, the Detroit Tigers, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Philadelphia Athletics and the Washington Senators.

Since then, the National and American league baseball teams have seen major changes. Not only has the American League baseball player roster changed, as players retired, new ones came on and others switched teams, but one American League baseball team, the Milwaukee Brewers, eventually left the league to join the National League.

All in all, the American League continues to disprove the nickname of “Junior” that it has received over the years. In the 2006, the American League baseball score was enough for them to win in over half of the games, though the failed to capture the World Series. However, the disappointing loss to Detroit Tiger’s fans may be just the ammunition needed to spur them on to victory in the upcoming season.
