For those interested in becoming a good pitcher either in the MLB or just for your local team, there are some basic ideas behind becoming a good pitcher. The first rule of pitching is to locate your pitches where you are planning on. This is very difficult to do consistently and many Major League pitchers still struggle with this concept, but if one can become proficient in locating, one can become successful in getting the outs that your team needs you on the mound for. Once proficient at locating pitches, make your pitches move, left to right, right to left, down and away, up and to the inside, etc. This will serve to confuse the hitter and keep him off balance, and if you continue to effectively locate and keep all of your pitches moving the way you like, expect that you will become even more successful in getting outs. A third tip, is to change the speed of your pitches, don’t throw all fastballs at the same speed, vary it a bit to throw off the hitter even further. Finally, when you need that fastball to blaze past the hitter, be ready to throw with the high velocity necessary. If you can master three of the previous four ideas, then you will be good at getting the outs that your team needs, and remember that good pitching beats good hitting so a pitcher has more control of the game then hitters.
