Baseball Card Template

Templates are design effects created to be applied to existing photographs with minimal work and effort. In essence, they’re just like digital frames that can be put into place around any existing image. Modern baseball cards rely heavily on these templates. The company takes a photograph of the player and applies a ‘frame’ around it that contains the player’s name, position, team name and usually some kind of design effect. Although it may look complicated, the specific templates are designed to be as simple as possible. All the artist does is fill in select “blanks” in the frame with the right text information, change the colors of the design, usually to match those of the player’s team, and crop and resize the picture to best fit the card. All of it takes minutes to a designer, and tutorials are available to make it simple to even the most novice of armchair cardmakers.

Templates For Making Baseball Cards

Templates for making baseball cards can be found easily enough by the careful searcher, but not all of them are free. However, as a warning to the casual creator, even something as simple as turning a snapshot into a baseball card will require expensive image editing software, such as Adobe Illustrator, which can cost nearly two hundred dollars new, or Adobe Photoshop, which can be over six hundred dollars for the higher-end editions. Unless you plan to make a serious career in art and design, it would be cheaper in the long run to pay somebody to create the cards for you, such as Sports Card Online.

Free Baseball Card Templates

Most free templates are very difficult to locate, and can usually only be found hosted on forums and blogs by dedicated creators, people that aren’t trying to make any money from their work. This also means that the work is bound to look somewhat amateurish or unprofessional, but that’s the price you pay. The Heart2Heart Designs page has a handy tutorial in the “classroom” section, under “Photoshop elements,” which also has free downloadable templates for photoshop. The instructions provided tell you everything you would ever need to know about creating baseball cards, and can easily be applied to templates such as this one, at Creative Creature, or this one, posted to the Out of the Park Developments forums. Other, more polished-looking templates tend to be inexpensive, but not free.
