Texas Rangers history has been a longer one, without much success. The first game was played at the Arlington Stadium in 1972. Once the season was over, the manager, Ted Williams, retired. He was replaced by Whitey Herzog who was replaced by Billy Martin.

1974 proved to be a good year for the Texas Rangers, and the finished in second place behind the Oakland Athletics, who won the World Series that year. The following year, however, the team had a rough start, and Martin was let go and replaced by Frank Lucchesi. This started off a cycle of poor seasons followed by almost-success followed by disappointment. This continued for several years through changes of ownership, management (including being partially managed by George W. Bush), and players.

The 2007 Texas Rangers have plenty to look forward to. During the off season, Buck Showalter was replaced by Ron Washington. The team also acquired the veteran Sammy Sosa. While many people felt that this was a publicity stunt to drive up the sales of Texas Rangers tickets, Sosa impressed some with his performance during the Texas Rangers spring training. David Peterson also made the Texas Rangers roster. The Rangers will also be playing at a recently renamed ballpark, now to be called the “Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.”

Despite this, as of June the Texas Rangers held the worst record in the American League West. The starting pitchers also have the worst composite ERA throughout major league baseball. Some highlights have included Sammy Sosa hitting his 600th career home run; however, there are few promising signs that the Rangers will enjoy a good season for 2007.
