The history of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim baseball is a younger one when compared to its sister teams in the League. The St. Louis Browns planned to move there in 1940, and got permission for the 1942 season, however the bombing of Pearl Harbor stopped the relocation. In 1953 the team planned on moving again, however, they were sold and became the Baltimore Orioles. The Washington Senators and the Philadelphia Athletics also flirted with the idea of coming to California, but in the end the Brooklyn Dodgers came. Expansions in both Leagues allowed for the expansion team to be put in Los Angeles in 1961, where the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have remained.

The first year in business was a great one for the Los Angeles Angels, and the finished with the highest winning percentage ever seen in a first year expansion team. The following year, the Los Angeles Angels moved to the Dodger Stadium, and even became a contender for the American League Pennant. The season also marked the first no-hit game to ever be pitched in that stadium. 1964 was another successful year for the Los Angeles Angels, and the need for their own stadium was more apparent.
Unable to build a stadium in Los Angeles itself, the team looked elsewhere. Long Beach California made an offer, however, the team would have had to be renamed the Long Beach Angeles. Instead, the team was able to make a deal with the city of Anaheim, and came to be known as the California Angels. The new home generated an increase in attendance for the Angels.
A few decades and changes of ownership later, the California Angels became the Anaheim Angels with Disney’s effort to make Anaheim a “destination city” like Orlando. There were some protests from the fans, but with the change in names and uniforms seemed to do the Angels a service. They finally won their first World Series title in 2002.
